Screens are convenient, but sometimes you want creative, hands-on ways to keep toddlers busy. These screen-free activities are low-prep, fun, and toddler-approved — perfect for long afternoons, rainy days, or solo parenting moments.
1. Sticker Play
Give your toddler a sticker book or blank notebook to peel and stick freely.
Builds fine motor skills
Encourages creativity and imagination
Simple and low-prep
No Stress about stickers all over your floor/furniture. These books have reusable stickers that are easy peel
These books are also great for road trips, dinner out, and the plane!
2. Busy Bin Fun
Fill bins with everyday household items or toys, like:
Measuring cups
Silicone baking tools
Small containers
Muffin Tin
Any type of spatula or ladle (be creative)
Cotten balls, POMPOMS, plastic balls, cheerios
Why it works:
Rotating items keeps them interested
Toddlers can explore independently
Minimal setup for mom
You would be surprised how long this entertains them with just materials you have around the house.
Added bonus if they are into play kitchen and make you something!
3. Color Sorting
Grab blocks, toys, or household items and sort them by color. I usually gather all different colored items or even different colored stickers and spread them out. Then on some butcher paper/construction paper/ printer paper (any paper you have) I use colored markers to draw big zones labeled with the color. Your toddler then gets to sorting!
Why it works:
Educational play without feeling structured
Keeps toddlers focused
Quick and easy setup
Learns colors
As they get older they can go on color hunts for items around the house to put in the zones!
4. Toddler Crafts
Simple crafts like dot markers, large crayons, or tear-and-paste paper sets are perfect for quiet play. My son is two and I love this Crayola mess free paint and paper! No worries of paint going anywhere but the designated paper. They have paint, markers, and much more!
Why it works:
Sparks creativity
Encourages independent play
Screen-free and fun
Creates beautiful art pieces!
5. Rotating Toys
We've all heard about toy rotating but as the kids get older they accumulate BIG toys that can't really be stored anywhere or broken down easily! So I've linked some small puzzles, board books, and other medium toys that are easily stored in a cabinet or bin when not in use!
Why it works:
When my toddler has less toys out he actually plays with them more.
Toddlers act as its a new toy all over again and it buys hours of entertainment
Reduces clutter, aka less clean up
Calm, screen-free activity
6.Bath Paint and Coloring
This might be my favorite go to on a rainy cold day. Our bathroom has a tub/shower insert and it is a perfect canvas for art time! Pour in some paint in a recycled egg cartoon. add a cheap paint brush, some bubbles, and some bath crayons and watch the magic happen.
Why it works

7. Splash Pad
This splash pad saved our summer with quick, easy entertainment for the toddler and the dog! Just connect it to the hose and let the fun begin! To add more fun you can have them jump on a letter or animal thats printed on the splash pad for some extra learning.
No clean up. Just un plug the splash pad and hang to dry
Doesn't take up much storage and easy to put away
Can use this for years
8.Water Table
This toy has endless opportunities. When is gets a little colder we will add some rocks, sand, and mud to the bottom and make a construction site with mini construction vehicles. Add a rechargeable water pump to have water continuously flowing.
Easy to clean
Keeps the mess outside
Easily adaptable to your child's interest. Mermaid, Car Wash, Construction site.
9. Letter Matching
Does your toddler also love numbers and letters? Then this is for you! Get some paper (I use butcher paper) and write the alphabet and numbers in a random order all over the paper. Hang on the freezer, refrigerator or even a cookie sheet and get some of these magnetic letters and numbers.
